Client Resources - Acquisition Report

Acquisition Report

The Acquisition Report tells you where on the internet your website visitors are coming from. Many website visitors will originate from search engines (called organic traffic). But your site may also get visits from referral traffic, social media sites and other sources. Use this report to understand how your visitors are finding your website online.

Organic Traffic

What is it?

These graphs show you the number of visits and visitors that came to your website through a search engine (called organic traffic). These graphs are broken down by day of the month.

What to look for:

This report can show you when people are searching for your business or service online. Look for patterns over the month. Do certain days of the week have high traffic? Is there a noticeable pattern to your traffic, or are visits random?

Referral Traffic

What is it?

These graphs show you the number of visits and visitors that came to your website from a link on another website (but not search engines).

What to look for:

This report is often where you will see spikes in traffic if you have launched a promotion or campaign through another media source (like the newspaper) or another website (like Groupon). Look for the days you had large changes in visits and check if they correspond with any of your marketing activities or something relevant happening in your community.

Top Referring Domains

What is it?

Top referring domains are the 10 websites that sent the most traffic to your website in the reporting month.

What to look for:

If your website has good organic traffic, you will generally see the main search engines (Google, Bing & Yahoo) near the top of this list. Look for the domains that you have a paid advertisement or listing. Is the number of visits they are sending to your website a good return on your investment? Do you recognize all the domains listed? Looking at your referring domains can sometimes offer insight into new places to advertise and promote your business.

Top Referring Keywords

What is it?

These are the top 10 keywords that users have typed into a search engine to find your website. These keywords may be from organic or paid search traffic.

What to look for:

Generally speaking, you should always see your branded company name in this list. You should also see the main keywords you would like to be found for. For retail websites this is a good place to identify the top products you are being found for through the search engines.

Social

What is it?

This table is a list of social media platforms that direct traffic to your website.

What to look for:
