What should you expect from a Search Engine Optimization campaign?

It’s a good idea to be very clear on what you can, and cannot, expect from your website once it has been optimized.

There are some outrageous claims being made by some of the shadier SEO companies and it is a good idea to ensure that what you are paying for is both worthwhile and beneficial to your business.
ROI and conversion should always be part of the conversation when discussing Search Engine Optimization with internal stakeholders and new vendors.

What Search Engine Optimization WILL do for your business website

  • Increase your Search Engine rankings and visibility for your chosen key words and phrases.
  • Bring better quality visitors to your website – customers much more likely to buy because they are searching for exactly what you are able to offer them.
  • Enable the Search Engines to better access and index your site pages.
  • Increased visibility and more local customers able to find you in your local geographic market.
  • A 24/7 online marketing campaign at very low cost. Your optimized website doesn’t require that you pay large amounts every year to keep advertising your business.

What SEO CANNOT do for you

  • Guarantee you a #1, front page position in Google or the other Search Engines. The Search Engines are constantly making changes to their algorithms which will have an effect on the rankings. Top rankings are a moving target.
  • Guarantee you that you will suddenly have thousands of visitors buying from you. The basic principals of marketing still apply. Search Engine Optimization will ensure that people find you when they need you but you still need to be offering a product your customers need at a price they consider fair.

Things to watch for in new Search Engine Optimization vendors

  • Any company that promises you a No.1 position in Google’s results pages or claims to have a “relationship” with the Search Engines that they will use to promote your website.
  • Any company that promises to submit your website to 500 Search Engines. That’s a sales pitch used when they assume you know very little about online marketing. The reality is that only a handful of Search Engines count in today’s market with the major three being Google, Yahoo and Bing as well as a few others that serve niche markets. Ask yourself where the other 490 Search Engines are and what will they do for your business?

This is just a short “spotlight” of things you should consider at the start of an online marketing campaign. For more advice please contact us and let us know what we can do for you.
