YouTube Ad Formats

There are a variety of ad formats available when using YouTube video advertising, including non-video options:

Display Ads

These are non-video ads that appear to the right of the feature video above the suggestions list. If you have a smaller screen, it could appear below the video.

Overlay Ads

These are semi-transparent ads that overlay somewhere in the lower 20% portion of a video.

Skippable Ads

A 5 second skippable ad on a YouTube Video.

These are video ads that can be inserted before or during the main video and they allow the user to skip the ads after five seconds. For these ads you only pay when a user has watched the first 30 seconds the ad, watched the entire ad (adds <30 seconds), or if they click on the ad.

Non-Skippable Ads

These are video ads that can be inserted before, during, or after the main video. However, they require the user to watch the entire ad before a video can be viewed. These Ads can be up to 15 seconds long and advertisers pay per impression (CPM).

Bumper Ads

Discovery Ads

Discovery ads are essentially native ads that show up on YouTube’s search results page, watch page, or homepage and are meant to display alongside relevant organic results. The idea is that users will be more interested in engaging with your content because the ads are directly related to the topics they are interested in. Users who click on these ads are sent to your video page or YouTube channel.
